Circle café was started 6 years ago by actor Martin Jacobs and Film Production Designer, Sarah Stollman in the Uniting Church building in Balmain, a heritage listed double fronted terrace with a wide verandah and leafy front garden. The local church is our landlord and uses our rent and fundraising efforts to support their charity work with refugees.
Having lived in the South of France Martin wanted to set up a community café/restaurant typical of a French Provincial café, a meeting place central to the community. The film posters that decorate the walls are a personal mix of films we have made, films developed at the café, classic food films, and simply films we like. Many of our staff, most of whom are locals, have worked with us for three years or more helping to provide friendly and efficient service to our many regular and new customers.
